Social(ist) (In)Security

The first baby boomer in the United States applied for Social Security yesterday. Approximately 80 million are to follow in the next 18 years. This, along with the massive increase in Medicare disbursements, will put a huge strain on the system.

We are about to witness the very grim consequences of socialist policies. And to think it’s happening right here in the “capitalist” United States of America. Home of the sort-of-free.

Although I get the gist of what you’re saying here a little clarification is in order. The obviously socialist Medicare “program” aside there is not now, nor has there ever been a Social Security “system” per se. It was devised as such (a little research will bear that out) but it was immediately challenged in a court of law and lost that challenge. The courts allowed the tax to remain in place (the hard-earned dollar amounts that are deducted from your paycheck before you get what’s left) but denied the government the authority to create some sort of bank-account to be added to and monthly checks to be drawn from in the name of Social Security - the so-called Trust Fund the Republicrats pretend exists. There is no, and can be no, Trust Fund. Social(ist) (In)Security is just another tax we pay for the government to add to the General Fund and mispend, no more and no less.

I completely agree with you. when i said “system,” I was referring to the federal government in general. I realize there is no social security fund. my point was that the government cannot afford to pay out all of the promises that have been made by irresponsible politicians, without taxing us more or printing more money — which is equivalent to taxing us, since prices will inevitably rise due to a decline in the value of our currency.
