10 Most Corrupt Politicians of 2007

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

This is a list of the most corrupt politicians of 2007 selected by Judicial Watch. The list includes presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama. Brief explanations are given as to why each was chosen, and a little perusing of the site will lead you to more detailed stories involving these politicians and many more.

Tis the Season

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

This makes me want to go out and rob people so I can buy my family really nice Christmas gifts. That is what Christmas is all about after all: Giving away gifts that were paid for by other people. How generous.

Oh, and you can bet that the “bring the troops home” and “tax breaks for the middle class” gifts are empty.

Huckabee’s Pandering Knows no Bounds

Friday, December 21st, 2007

Apparently Mike Huckabee will pander to anyone — even if they won’t be able to vote for him. Pathetic, but hilarious:

“Who is your favorite author?” Aleya Deatsch, 7, of West Des Moines asked Mr. Huckabee in one of those posing-like-a-shopping-mall-Santa moments.

Mr. Huckabee paused, then said his favorite author was Dr. Seuss.

In an interview afterward with the news media, Aleya said she was somewhat surprised. She thought the candidate would be reading at a higher level.

“My favorite author is C. S. Lewis,” she said.

(I must give credit to Jesse Walker at Reason for digging out the hilarity of the otherwise bland article)

Economic Solutions

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I came across this article reminding us of the oncoming recession and the possible threat of a depression. The author then goes on to discuss a book that was written in 1935, laying out a plan that should be followed if we wish to avoid recessions and depressions. The advice was clearly not followed, and the economy continues its up and down roller coaster ride, harming disproportionately the poor and middle class.

Lucky for us, we have a man (more here) willing to make this solution a reality. All we need to do is vote for him.

This is a rally held in Austin yesterday. They keep getting bigger and bigger!

Dr. Paul’s Tea Party Turnout

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Ron Paul’s amazing fundraising blitz, commemorating the Boston Tea Party, brought in over $6 million dollars in a single day! I don’t know the official number, but I’ve seen estimates around $6.3 million. He easily surmounted the previous single day fundraising record or $5.7 million, held by John Kerry.

Amidst news of candidates getting endorsements from windbag celebrities, fellow politicians, and mainstream media outlets, Ron Paul received a much more honorable endorsement: He was endorsed by tens of thousands of regular, hard-working Americans, including almost 25,000 first-time donors, sick of being cheated, lied to, and looted by the government.

Update: I just wanted to add that there were a total of 59,170 donors yeasterday and an average donation of $102.

Ron Paul Supporters: Ignore this!

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

It’s happening again!

Over at Ron Paul Graphs you can monitor the progress in astonishing detail. This graph, comparing this “money bomb” to the previous one on November 5th, shows today’s fundraising about $750,000 ahead of November 5th as of 12pm; and the rate at which donations are coming in is significantly greater. If this remains consistent throughout the day, Ron Paul could bring in over $6 million today!

Ron Paul Blimp is Launched

Friday, December 14th, 2007

The Ron Paul Blimp, organized and paid for by grassroots supporters, independent of the campaign, was launched earlier today. Even though the launch had been delayed, it’s up in time for the “tea party” money bomb that will take place Sunday which is the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. In my estimate, this will push Dr. Paul’s 4th quarter fundraising over $14 million. That will likely be the highest of any candidate.

RFID on the Horizon

Friday, December 14th, 2007

The latest step in the seemingly inevitable goal to have each and every American tagged, and electronically monitored by the government — for national security reasons of course — is beginning to take shape.

It’s likely we will soon have RFID chips embedded in our drivers licenses that will emit a signal within a 10 meter radius. The chips can be used to monitor and record your movements.

“A simple, inexpensive radio receiver placed alongside the road will be able to record the identity, location, date and time of everyone in your car, even as you drive by on your way to the customs booth.”

The author of the article I linked to also brought up another overlooked point regarding drivers licenses.

“Take out your vehicle registration and read the fine print on the back — right above where you signed your name — noting, particularly, the phrase: ‘this commercial vehicle.’

“Now, the reason the state wants you to declare that you might wish to allow use of your vehicle for commercial purposes is because strictly personal travel on public roads is a fundamental right. And no one needs special permission from the government to exercise a right. It is only using the public roads for commercial purposes that is a revocable ‘privilege.’”

Of course people will claim that it’s necessary for security, and it won’t be abused. But a diminishing number people will continue to justify these ever increasing privacy violations until every movement and transaction we make is monitored by the federal government.

Send A Soldier A Card

Monday, December 10th, 2007

This is an email forward that is going around:

If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can’t pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

I think it’s a nice thing to do. It only takes a minute and it’s completely free.

NAFTA Superhighway?

Friday, December 7th, 2007

Attempts by the media and opponents of presidential candidate Ron Paul to label him a conspiracy theorist, started soon after he declared his candidacy. Of course all of the attempts have failed, since none of the claims are true. No matter how unsuccessful the results have been, they keep trying. The latest attempt has been to draw attention to his criticism of a proposed North American Union and specifically the construction of the NAFTA Superhighway. Many critics claim that no such plans exist in any way shape or form.

Spokesman for The Federal Highway Administration, Ian Grossman, said “There is no such superhighway like the one he’s talking about…It doesn’t exist, in plans or anywhere else.”

If this is the case then they had better let Canada know, and suggest that they take down this web page, mapping out the proposed path of a NAFTA Superhighway as well as other major trade routes, linking Canada and Mexico.

Now, I realize this does not immediately indicate disastrous policy bent on integrating the three countries, but there is more. If you are still unconvinced, I suggest reading this article, providing numerous examples of legislation that has been introduced to stop efforts to construct these corridors, compromise the sovereignty of the United States, or expand our governance over a broader region. The article highlights the fact that the attack piece issued by Newsweek relied heavily on government sources, which never have anything to hide from the people (please not my e-sarcasm).

This is also interesting:

As WND reported, [Mexican President, Vicente] Fox in a televised Oct. 8 interview with Larry King on CNN confirmed the existence of a plan conceived with President Bush to create a new regional currency in the Americas, expanding on the North American integration vision begun with NAFTA.

and:

Other readers pointed to a 2005 Council on Foreign Relations task force report entitled “Building a North American Community,” with one writing, “It is inescapable that certain individuals and groups with an internationalist ideology want to create some kind of North American Union.”

The article is full of other references that shed light on the secrecy and deception surrounding these government organizations.

Ron Paul on the Relevance of Religion in Politics

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Specifically relating to Mitt Romney’s affiliation with the Mormon Church, and his public address regarding this issue, which will be given momentarily.

We live in times of great uncertainty when men of faith must stand up for American values and traditions before they are washed away in a sea of fear and relativism. I have never been one who is particularly comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena, and I find the pandering that typically occurs in the election season to be distasteful.

Our nation was founded to be a place where religion is freely practiced and differences are tolerated and respected. I come to my faith through Jesus Christ and have accepted him as my personal savior. At the same time, I have worked tirelessly to defend and restore individual rights and religious freedom for all Americans.

The recent attacks and insinuations, both direct and subtle, that Gov. Romney may be less fit to serve as president of our United States because of his faith fly in the face of everything America stands for. Gov. Romney should be judged fairly, on his record and his character, not on the church he attends.

In an interview with Newsweek, Dr. Paul further expressed his distaste with religious pandering, and the pressure put on political figures to address their religious views as a litmus test for political competency:

Iran’s Non-Existent Nuclear Threat.

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

US intelligence agencies released a report on Monday concluding that Iran had halted their nuclear weapons program in 2003. If the program was resumed, it would take at least 8 years before they acquired a nuclear weapon. This assessment neglects the lack of transportation for the weapon, the motivation for using such a weapon against the US, and the consequences that Iran would face for taking that type of action.

This should embarrass most of the presidential candidates who have used exaggerated, if not flatly false, threats to garner support for their campaigns; and the current administration for using such claims as a ploy to advance their imperialist/mercantilist agenda.

The Republican candidates — aside from Ron Paul of course, who has been saying all along that these hyped threats were nothing but war propaganda — have all but backed away from their reckless statements regarding Iran.

Senator Clinton has used this report to contradictorily justify her approach to Iran. She somehow claims she has taken a more diplomatic approach despite voting “in favor of a Senate measure declaring the Iranian Revolutionary Guards ‘proliferators of mass destruction’.” Her Aides then stated that “The Revolutionary Guards are deeply involved in Iran’s nuclear program.”

The State vs. The Economy

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

It looks like Michigan entrepreneurs won. The Michigan service tax was repealed almost immediately after it went into effect this past Saturday. So what do they win? How about a 22% surcharge on the state’s new business tax? That’s the replacement.

Hasn’t anyone noticed that transferring money from the private sector to the state, does more harm to the economy than good? Don’t you think that you can spend your money more wisely than a gang of know-it-all bureaucrats that you’ve never even met? Why do we allow them to take our money and spend it for us? Squander it, more like.

Exploiting Christianity?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

It has always appeared to me that, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, has been walking a fine line between being very open about his faith, and exploiting Christianity for political expedition. I think this video clip from from 2004 is evidence that he has already strayed well beyond a tasteful, and unoffensive discussion of his religious views.

At least it wasn’t as awkward as Giuliani’s “unexpected” cell phone call during his speech before the NRA.
