No Food For Fat People
Mississippi legislators introduced a bill aimed at restricting restaurant owners from serving food to people who are obese, as defined through criteria given by the state health department. Restaurants would be monitored by the state to ensure they are in compliance.
From the actual text of House Bill No. 282:
An act to prohibit certain food establishments from serving food to any person who is obese, based on criteria prescribed by the state department of health; to direct the department to prepare written materials that describe and explain the criteria for determining whether a person is obese and to provide those materials to the food establishments; to direct the department to monitor the food establishments for compliance with the provisions of this act; and for related purposes. Be it enacted by the legislature of the state of Mississippi:
I don’t see this being passed, but the fact that bills like this are even being proposed is startling, and at the rate we’re going, it won’t be long before they become laws.

This bill and any like it should scare people to DEATH! DJ’s tongue-in-cheek comments could easily become reality once we start down that slippery slope. Not to say we haven’t already opened the way to that slope, I’m afraid.
