Barr for President?
Former Republican congressman, Bob Barr has launched an exploratory committee, to investigate the feasibility of seeking the Libertarian Party presidential nomination. Though Barr is no Ron Paul — he initially voted for the war in Iraq and the Patriot Act (after the sunset provisions) — he has since denounced his actions, and endorsed Paul’s nomination.
Barr could play a significant role in the general election since McCain, the assumed Republican nominee, is not exactly wooing conservative voters, and the petty bickering of Clinton and Obama is driving Democrat voters away. His candidacy would likely provide a home for Ron Paul supporters. Given his strong conservative record, and being appointed U.S. Attorney by Ronald Reagan, may draw more support from republican voters.
This is shaping up to be an interesting election. It’s might be worth noting that former Democratic presidential nominee, Mike Gravel, is also seeking the Libertarian Party nomination…but that’s a different story.

Another Ross Perot. Perot split the republican vote in 92 and we ended up with the Clinton’s for 8 years (I’m not convinced he wasn’t on the Clinton payroll). A third party is not always good.
If you throw a libertarian into the mix now it will only serve to divide the republican party enough to ensure a democrat victory. That won’t be good for our pocketbooks or, more importantly, our individual freedoms and rights.
Libertarians need to start at the ground level and establish a stong base in city, county and state governments. Shooting for the top job right off the bat only creates a split of conservatives by just enough to ensure a progressive victory. This year it may only take 2-5% to do just that.

I’m convinced that McCain would be equally as bad fiscally. Clinton may have been an awful president, but his spending increase was nothing compared to that of Bush II. It doesn’t look good for our individual freedoms either way you go. The difference between McCain, and Clinton or Obama is like the difference between jumping off the empire state building or the sears tower.
If we continue to vote for the lesser of two evils, we are going to continue to be governed by evil.
