Monroe High Homecoming Carnival 9/30/08

What a fun event, and a great way to promote Monroe High School to the community and families of future students. 
The entire gym and commons were filled with elementary age students, MHS staff and MHS students.  Face painting, bounce houses, carnival games and lots of food.

STUDY: kids learn more when mom is listening

Kids may roll their eyes when their mother asks them about their school day, but answering her may actually help them learn. New research from Vanderbilt University reveals that children learn the solution to a problem best when they explain it to their mom.

STUDY: children learn best from positive feedback

Eight-year-old children have a radically different learning strategy from twelve-year-olds and adults. Eight-year-olds learn primarily from positive feedback (’Well done!’), whereas negative feedback (’Got it wrong this time’) scarcely causes any alarm bells to ring.  Twelve-year-olds are better able to process negative feedback, and use it to learn from their mistakes.  Adults do the same, [...]
