With four kids, each with at least three sets of hats and of gloves (one regular set, one for when the regular set is left at school, one set for playing in the snow) and with the girls being close in size and the boys being close in size, and with the fact that the universe will collapse if someone wears another person’s gloves, keeping winter outerwear matched up and organized is always a chore.
I put up a shoe organizer on the back of our entryway closet. Each child has a row of pockets to keep their items in. This year we added picture labels to the pockets for a little added guidance.
Each kid (even the two year old) is responsible for putting their stuff away when they come inside, and if they have a specified place for all their items, they shouldn’t have a problem finding them the next time they are needed.
In the summer, snow hats and gloves go away, and everyone has a pocket for sunglasses, goggles, and ballcaps.

Where did you get yours? Is it mesh? The ones that I see are plastic-y and don’t seem like they will last through a season of being tugged on.

From Target. It was more in the decorate-a-kids-room section rather than the organizing-your-closet section.
I see you can order one online here

There’s a canvas/cotton one they have at Bed Bath and Beyond too.
