I love the Big Brother/ Big Sister shirts. But buying the personalized shirts gets a little expensive with several siblings. I’ve made the shirts for the births of Andrew and Jason, and did the same for Nathan.
Also, the commercially available sibling shirts are usually only available in toddler sizes, which makes it impossible to match when you have older siblings too.
Making your own t-shirts is very easy. You can use google images (ie search for “big sister shirts”) to get some ideas. My sister came up with these designs for me by cutting and pasting Peanuts characters then adding names in text boxes. The crossword puzzle shirts were made from a puzzlemaker website and cropped to size.
It’s really easy to make custom t-shirts as long as you follow the directions. Craft stores, office supply stores, and discount stores sell iron-on transfer paper ($8 for 12 sheets).
I made sure these were finished in advance of my due date, and boxed the shirts with a book of stickers ($1) and a couple chocolate covered pretzels.
If you think your kids might be anxious or overwhelmed with seeing mom in the hospital, a little gift like this can calm them. Plus it’s a fun way for them to announce their new baby at school.
