Teenage Angst Still Pays Off Well
The new commercial for a popular video game features “Breed” from Nirvana’s “Nevermind.”
I’ve been weighing the pros and cons for the past week or so, and I think in the end, I’m against it. Not that it matters what I think.
I’m against it for two reasons. 1) I think Kurt wouldn’t have done it. 2) I’m afraid Courtney Love is profiting from it. If I’m wrong on either count I will withdraw my objection, but I’m pretty sure I’m right on both.
(I wrote another paragraph describing my feelings for and suspicions about Kurt Cobain’s widow, but I have chosen not to post it for fear she would sue/kill me.)

coincidentally we (CAM and AJZ) were discussing this just minutes ago. I was shocked to hear the song being played on a commercial…a little bit bothered to be honest. I agree that kurt would probably have had none of that. and I assume you are also correct that courtney profited (is profiting and will profit) from it. however strange it may seem, there is nothing unjust* about it and it was bound to happen sooner or later. It definitely sounded strange being played as a tool for marketing a video game. I just wonder if this generation hears it the same way we did. I assume not…but maybe.
*I have invested no time in investigating or researching the death of kurt, so I assume courtney had nothing to do with his death. If that was the case, it would obviously be unjust.

Bonus points for effective use of asterisk.

thanks. I’m just glad it didn’t come to a double asterisk or, g-d forbid, a triple asterisk.
