Ringo disses Regis

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

This morning when the producers of “Live with Regis and Kelly” told the former Beatle that he would have to reduce his scheduled performance time to under 2 1/2 minutes, Mr. Starkey decided to walk than to compromise. Ringo was out promoting his new album, “Liverpool 8″ (and it really rather enjoyable if do say so myself).

When David Byrne talks, we listen

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

“I would personally advise artists to hold on to their publishing rights (well as much of them as they can). Publishing royalties are how you get paid if someone covers, samples, or licenses your song for a movie or commercial. This, for a songwriter, is your pension plan.”

David Byrne, songwriter, musician and founding member of the Talking Heads in a recent Wired magazine article on the future of the music industry and Radiohead’s recent move to self-promotion and distribution

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

At the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Yoko Ono unveiled the new “John Lennon Educational Bus.” The vehicle will travel to schools across North America to teach children about the fundamentals of recording music. Along with the bus project (as reported in neighboring blog “Pop Culture Checklist”) , Yoko plans to launch a line of neckties and underwear featuring the artwork of the late Beatle to honor his memory.

Announcing the tribute to Lennon, Ms. Ono declared that “Music is power. Music is light as opposed to darkness. Let’s be a family of light. Let us be with the light and see that we can survive.”

She’s so heavy.

Stipe getting religion?

Monday, January 7th, 2008

“I can’t think of probably a single issue in which I am even remotely in the same universe as that guy and yet, he was kind of charming and self-deprecating. He was actually kind of a good sport, and funny, and I don’t know what that means. Maybe it’s a good thing that’s he’s being lauded right now by the right. He’s an evangelical. May God bless all living creatures but my god, how weird.”

Michael Stipe, of REM on Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee
