After 37 years, Eric Burdon & WAR will perform together in April at the Royal Albert Hall in London. They say it’s just a one time reunion, but it’s worth the wait just to hear them play “Spill the Wine” once more.
The late Beach Boy, Dennis Wilson’s “Pacific Ocean Blue” album which has been out of print for 10 years is finally being reissued as what else? a two-CD set. The release date is set for May 13.
I know, but this time it’s for real and it’s the first time that Mr. Starkey sat behind the drum kit. A live recording from Hamburg featuring “Money,” “Twist and Shout” and Hank Williams’ “Homesick Blues.”
“Certainly, country is one of the last bastions of good songwriting — and of singing in tune. As long as we’re on the charts. Any chart will do. Country music is now akin to what my generation was listening to in the ’60s and ’70s.”

Related breaking music news: The Eagles turn down an offer to play at next year’s Super Bowl (maybe they can get the Dixie Chicks to fill their slot).

Henry Diltz was the leading photographer of rock bands on the music scene from 1966-1975. Whether it was Hendrix, The Doors, Eagles, The Who or CSN&Y (seen practicing backstage in 1970) he was the primary lensman shooting them in concert or taking the pix for the album covers. Now he has released a retrospective book of his work called “California Dreaming” from Genesis Publications.
Just in time for the classic rock fans on your Christmas list.

Van Halen have not only brought back Diamond Dave, but they’ve decided to resurrect their original logo (which I think was designed by Mr. Roth himself). It was last used by the band in 1986, having been dropped when Sammy Hagar was enlisted as new singer.
The Detroit Free Press did a short history of rock and roll trademarks including the truth behind the Stones’ famous lips logo, pop culture’s most successful rock icon.
Announced today: the Sex Pistols will be reforming for a one-off concert to mark the 30th anniversary of their one-and-only (but much influential) album, “Never Mind the Bollocks.” Original members Johnny (Rotten) Lydon, Glen Matlock, Steve Jones and Paul Cook will take the stage in London in November. Bassist Sid Vicious died of a drug overdose in 1978.
Okay Plant, Page & JPJ finally announced that they will play a show together as Led Zeppelin. So far it’s only a one-off tribute concert to Ahmet Ertegun (the recently deceased record executive) that was suggested by his widow. The show will take place in London on November 26 at the 02 Arena. Their opening acts are no slouches either, scheduled to appear are: Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Stars (former Stones bassist), Pete Townshend (Who), Paolo Nutini (who?) and Foreigner. Oh yeah, sitting behind the drumkit will be Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham.
Whether a tour will follow is still unknown, but classic rock radio should have a field day with this. Just one more excuse to play Stairway to Heaven…
Murmurings about a Led Zeppelin get together have been audible for quite some time and this weekend advertisements appeared in England offering tickets for a Zep show at the 02 in London. Promoter Harvey Goldsmith, who along with Bob Geldof brought us Live Aid, was closely involved with the launch of this venue, issued a cryptic public statement in response to the ads. “There have been at least four events advertised which I suspect either don’t exist or where no tickets are on sale or indeed dates finalized,” Goldsmith said. His comments, which interestingly don’t include a straight-up “it’s not happening” denial, have only fueled the reunion-rumor fires, The Guardian reports.
Note: If John Paul Jones refuses to play maybe they get Michael Anthony to join them.
