NASA to beam Beatles tune to Polaris

Monday, February 4th, 2008

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of “Across the Universe,” the space agency is transmitting the tune to Polaris. It is scheduled to reach the north star in the year 2439. Maybe we could get them to beam Yoko up there too to make sure it arrives safely.

When David Byrne talks, we listen

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

“I would personally advise artists to hold on to their publishing rights (well as much of them as they can). Publishing royalties are how you get paid if someone covers, samples, or licenses your song for a movie or commercial. This, for a songwriter, is your pension plan.”

David Byrne, songwriter, musician and founding member of the Talking Heads in a recent Wired magazine article on the future of the music industry and Radiohead’s recent move to self-promotion and distribution

The Growing Similarities Between Eddie Vedder and Lenny Bruce

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

I’m not sure if you heard, but Eddie Vedder doesn’t like the current administration. What I’m sure you haven’t heard is his disdain set to the melody of “The Wall.” That is, unless you were in the audience at Lollapalooza.

Fans who tuned in to the AT&T webcast of the show experienced technical, ahem, difficulties as the grunge troubador, through no doubt clenched teeth, urged, “George Bush, leave this world alone/ George Bush, find yourself another home.”

AT&T doesn’t understand why we are all so upset about this. It was an honest mistake. They swear.

Eminem Takes on Apple

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Everybody in the 313, get your Mr. Falcon hands up and buy my CD’s!

Eminem’s music publisher is suing Apple for allowing people to illegaly download the artist’s songs onto iPods.

Um…

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

I heard from a reliable source that some guy was listening to his iPod when he was struck by lightning, and it burned his face all up.

Moral of the story: Buy a Zune.

Bring it.

Where do we draw the line between sharing and stealing? Is it stealing to burn CD’s for your friends? Is it stealing to teach your friends songs on guitar?

What about posting music files on sites like LimeWire or writing out guitar tabs and posting them on sites like guitar tab universe? Is that stealing?

Once we draw the line, how do we punish those who cross it? Removing ears, jail time, or fines?

What do you think?
