The only one wishing for some serious snow

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Ok, so my fiance is probably not THE only one, but pretty close.  He’s wishing hard for snow.  Why? Well the answer is only logical….

He wants to use his new snowblower.

As first time homeowners, there are a lot of things we suddenly own which we never had a need for before: a garden hose, serious tools, mega amounts of draperies, etc.  The people who previously owned our house were moving into a condo, so Ryan (fiance) and them cut a deal to buy some more new home tools such as a weed whip, leaf blower and the beloved snow blower.  And let me tell you, the boy looooooves his tools.  He’s used everything so far - except the snow blower.  He’s dying to use that thing but mother nature simply won’t cooperate.  When it does snow, however, I’m going to be expecting some serious snow blowing!

But really, I don’t think that big snow fall is gonna happen. (Knock on wood!)

EDIT: He didn’t want snow, just to use the snowblower.  How silly of me to think that he’d need snow for that….;) Also…welcome, 2 (?) inches of snow! I spoke too soon, eh?

First Meal

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

After 36 hours of not eating, I was starving, of course.  It was 4pm and I literally dragged my fiance out for dinner.  Poor guy works midnights so it was really his breakfast and I was really serious about eating something good.  Where did we turn to? Michigan Bar and Grill, of course!

When we were first thinking about moving to Monroe and came down here to take a look-see, we stopped there for lunch and were in complete shock that for $12, we both had HUGE lunches with enough to take home for another meal.  Still the same shock - it’s never one meal we go there for but 2, one to eat there and the other for our next lunch.  Sure it’s not always the speediest place to go but their food is great and very plentiful, just like Pete’s Garage.  Definitely our favorite two local places.  We’ve also liked Monroe Street Grill and Vaqueros (though we didn’t know it was a semi-chain) and are looking for other local eateries to try.  Suggestions?

Is it the air?

This is my second year teaching.  Everyone warned me how sick I would get last year and ::bingo::!, I only got sick once and it wasn’t even worthy of taking the day off.  I didn’t take vitamins, didn’t sleep anymore, nothing.

Fast forward to this year: I take multivitamins, echinacea, vitamin C, AirBorne, etc.  I have been sick 3 times! The third time being today.  It’s killer, my sick time is dwindling like I’d never imagine.  Someone joked with me today it’s the air in Monroe.  It was a come back because whenever people mention bad weather in their area and ask me how it is down here I don’t have horror stories.  The weather really does seem better down here (or maybe it’s just me?).  So maybe I traded weather for sickness? Who knows. Hope you’re not sick like me!
