Mysteries of the USPS in Monroe

Friday, April 27th, 2007

My bridal shower is May 20th; my awesome maid of honor handmade cards that I’m dying to see, but we agreed I’d be happily suprised when I received my card in the mail.

Well, she sent them on Tuesday.  My mother literally got hers on Wednesday. Quick, to say the least, but she only lives one subdivision away so that makes sense.  I figured mine was in the works.  Then on Wednesday, my work colleagues told me they received their cards.  They live about 40 minutes away.  I thought to myself then, Well maybe our mail here in Monroe goes through a main mail center in Ohio for some reason and it’s just taking a little bit longer to make the hour drive. That was reasonable and rational until today.  Today, one of the bridesmaids in Boston told me she received the card.

I still have nothing. What’s the deal with the mail? My mother’s postcard from Germany reached me in 4 days including a Sunday; my card to her from here took nearly two weeks.  What gives? Am I not invited to my own bridal shower? Hmmmm…the mystery continues.

I heart Toledo…

Last Sunday we got acquainted with the Toledo emergency vet.

I don’t know that it was an emergency in the traditional sense; Annie seemed fine, her ear was just insane.  I think I described it to the vet tech as “inflated”.  And it was.  Literally as we were walking out the door Ryan went to touch it and noticed it was puffed up like a pastry.  There was no way I was leaving here at home all day with an inflated ear, so off to the doggie ER we went.

My niece, of course, throught it was a thrilling adventure.  She had no problem with the change of plans. It was fun for her to explain Annie’s “condition” to the vet.  Eventually they drained her ear by poking a hole in it and drained 8ccs of blood.  It was a hematoma and now is no longer puffy.

I’m just glad she’s ok.  Costly or not, now we know where the emergency vet is in case we ever REALLY need it. Hopefully not.

A college friend of mine and I are meeting up for lunch on Sunday and I was thinking maybe we’d try some place new. She’s coming from her sister’s house in Dundee and I live in Detroit Beach…any suggestions on fun places to try that are open on Sunday?

Back up plan is to go to Pete’s…I swear I live there sometimes. (Another friend is going to dinner with Ryan and I ate Michigan Bar and Grill tonight, though I’m not sure she’ll be ok with me eating prime rib in front of her…)
