Things that make you go “hmmmmmmm”….
See if you can follow this story:
Today I get a letter from MGU (Michigan Gas & Utilities) that my check for $150 has been returned for NSF. Odd, since I just got taxes and every account is as happy as a clam. Then, it says after fees and what not, I now owe them $102. Ok. So I call; the automated system says I owe nothing and online says I owe $103 as of next week. Guy I talk to says I owe them nothing, then says I have a credit of $120. Starting to notice how none of these numbers stay the same? He tells me I overwrote a check by $120. Fine. I go online to double check another form of payment (note: I cannot find any record, physical or electronic, of ever having even attempted to pay the $150) and there it says I owe $103. I call again; lady reassures me I owe nothing and have a credit. She tells me my account is one of the few that don’t update monthly but on a sporatic basis. Interesting. I tell her this has happened before, and she says yes, your account is sporatic, I’ll make a note to change it so it updates weekly.
”You can’t update daily? Isn’t that strange?” I ask her.
“Yes, it is,” is her only response.
We end the conversation with me now $130 richer (credit on my account) and no reason the $ was returned. Did you follow that?
I wonder if I’m the only one who has problems with MGU…and do I have options to use something other than MGU?

My mom’s electricity was turned off once because she did the same song and dance you just did, you owe us this much, no we owe you some, yadda yadda and then 4 days later they turned off the lights! LOL Then they told us it would take up to 2 days to get someone out to manually turn the electricity back on! Good thing we have a good sense of humor. They had the power back on the next day but it was still completely ridiculous!

My problem w/ MGU is my “budget” amount… we set it up at the beginning of winter, so of course I was paying less each month than the gas I used… last month my bill said I owed 4x my budget! Called & turns out they decided (for whatever reason) that this is my “catch-up” month & I need to pay this amount now! What’s the point of a budget plan if they don’t let it go full cycle (ie - through the summer) to balance out? Whatta pain!

i’m wondering if i should try to salvage some coal-burning stoves in the old coal rooms in my basement and see if coal is now cheaper than gas. regardless of whether or not the utility companies are able to get it together, should it really cost that much to heat my house?
when do we get a new president again???

Sara, Anna, Tonya, Vanessa and our customer who first posted this issue: good morning. A friend sent this blog over to me as a favor and I would like to respond with some comments.
I read your postings about credit issues and budget balances with great concern. The employees @ Michigan Gas Utilities want our customers to feel as though they are being treated fairly and do not want you to feel frustrated or confused, as your postings indicate. That’s simply not the service we intend to provide.
I would like to look into your concerns further, yet without more information about who you are, I am not able to research the details related to your account. Please call me (direct and toll free) @ 888-211-7955 ext. 6123. I will personally become involved to resolve your issues.
A special note for Sarah: Your concern seems to be about your mother’s electric service. However, MGU is a local natural gas company. We would not have any involvement in her electric service. If you’d like Sarah, feel free to call me and I will help you get in touch with the appropriate utility company.
