Ann Arbor

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Some of my fondest memories in life in general are of Ann Arbor, and not just the 5 years I lived there, either. As a kid, my family made a weekly trip to downtown Ann Arbor for some homemade baked bread. We’d tour around the area and go to the lovely little shops, always looking for antiques and never buying any. I still remember the awe I felt looking down on the city from that one road (no, I don’t remember the name) and seeing all the trees.

As an adult, I still love going to Ann Arbor. It’s a bit like walking down memory lane. I met a friend at Seva, a delicious vegetarian place, and we walked around for a few hours. I bought this, which I’ve been longing for for eons.

It’s from Falling Water and is an Anne Frank quotation that really speaks to me.

Anyway, I love the atmosphere in Ann Arbor. We had 3 conversations with random strangers - 3! And there was so much organic and handmade fun. I bought a few Christmas presents and wished we had a downtown quite so magical here. I’ve come to love a few downtown shops such as Purse-onally Yours and the art botique (note: I should go there for Mom’s Christmas present) but there aren’t the plethora of stores that A2 has. I’ve been told downtown Dundee has some cute shops, too, so maybe we’ll wander around there someday. I love old downtowns!

All my life I’ve been jealous of those people who are sent personalized address labels in the mail. Growing up, my mom got them all the time and it drove me nuts I never got any -  I could use them for things beyond  bills! Then we moved into our house and my husband got them…another person with no use for them beyond bills.

But yesterday…yesterday I got mine! They are Ziggy, which makes them all the better. My name is actually spelled correctly, too. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society got me - I’m totally sending them a check for making this dream come true. :) They’re a great cause and I had a co-worker pass away a few years ago from lymphoma, so it’s worth every penny.

We are the proud owners of…

a motorcycle. A few weeks back we took a weekend motorcycle class and since then, hubby has been looking for one. As it turns out, one of his co-workers (who lives in Monroe) decided to sell him his. We saw it today and man, I can’t wait to ride that thing! Though it will mostly be my husband’s, I’ll inhereit it eventually. The best part was that it is a local purchase, so there’s no need to have that inexperienced motorcyclist husband of mine drive it home on the expressway. Safety and locality are great! Pictures to come soon.
