K-mart friendliness and a new coffee favorite

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

My father-in-law, bless his heart, bought me a Magic Bullet for Christmas. There was good news and bad news involved; the good news was that I *adore* the Magic Bullet but the  bad news was that I already owned one. Thus, today I found myself in the return line at K-mart. I’m always a little apprehensive about that store since I’ve never had fantastic experiences, but today they were great. Everyone was helpful, quick, and friendly - including the guests waiting in line. I had a lovely wolverine chat with the teacher  behind me who was also warm and kind. Go blue.

After I bought my bookshelf (thanks, FIL!) I made a stop at the Rendezvous Cafe on Monroe Street. I’ve been wanting to go there for awhile but never have remembered in time. I ordered the sugar cookie latte which is filled with delicious flavors such as brown sugar, cinamon, and peanut butter. I am a total sucker for peanut butter and coffee. It’s odd.  This drink is absolutely amazing and worth every penny. I was so impressed with the cafe - it’s warm and inviting, but not too home-like. I definitely will be returning. The staff there was also great, and we mused over the term “language arts” (they asked what I was doing today and I said “nothing that I can’t do over the next week I have off, which led to the  teacher discussion and eventually why my class is called “language arts” instead of English”) to people who can’t say Monroe-ian words like “Nadeau” and the actual word Monroe. Good times, great peeps, fantastic coffee. Plus, check out the value saver things you get in the mail because there are Rendezvous coupons!

Edit: Rendezvous also has a myspace page! Be still my heart!

Doggie doctors

Since we’ve moved here we’ve taken both dogs loyally to Country Creek. We absolutely adore that place and they have always been super acommadating for us, especially with our chaotic-at-times doggie needs. They know when I say “Henry the bulldog” something is up and typically can squeeze us in…but sadly, not this time. Henry’s eye has been buggin’ him and when our  beloved vet office told us they couldn’t see him until Wednesday, I kind of had a panic attack. It’s not that he’s been in obvious pain but uncomfortable would be a better term, and it wasn’t something we wanted to let go for five more days. So we reluctantly made an appointment at another vet clinic and hoped for the best.

Henry is a loving little guy but can be a handful. They know him well at PetSmart as the dog who looks sweet and gentle but can be insane and tough when you attempt to trim his nails (it normally takes 4 adults and we laugh when a new guy says he can handle him himself because it never works out). Anyway, we took the little guy to Ash Vet Clinic on Telegraph and really liked them. They were kind, effective, and efficient.

Henry, as it turns out, has a cornea ulcer. Takes after me and the 5 I have had pre-lasik, I suppose. If you’re looking for a vet I would definitely suggest either clinic - both are fantastic.
