emergency vet

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

After a few chaotic hours yesterday filled with tears and many fears, our Annie was ok. I took her to our local vet at Country Creek, who we adore, and he suggested we go to the nearest emergency hospital - an hour away. He said she might not make the drive, but she hung in there and after some TLC from the emergency hospital she is ok (but pending surgery).

That hour drive was insane. Don’t tell, but I went 90mph at times. Not when I was sobbing with fear, though.

Are there local emergency vets closer? We’ve been to the one in Toledo but it would not have been big enough to handle this. We’ve also been to Michigan State and now Michigan Vet Specialists in both Waterford and Southfield (yesterday’s trip). Any suggestions?

Produce delivery?

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I follow some blogs from around the world - Europe, Canada, Australia. I’m so fascinated by their produce delivery! I know some major cities have this but it would be lovely if here in Monroe we could ge a box of locally grown and FRESH produce to enjoy. Anyone heard of any options like this?

It pays to protect the earth, in more ways than one

Ever since my ecofeminism class at Eastern, I’ve been on the biggest environmental kick of my life - and yes, that even includes the three years of “reduce, reuse, and recycle” training in elemetentary school.

Today I recycled my plastics (though I did forget to bring the stack of plastic grocery store bags to recycle) and brought 2 reusable bags I got for free via Teacher Appreciation Day. It turns out Kroger gives you 5 cents for each bag! So I earned an additional 10 cents towards my purchase, not to mention the 6 plastic bags they normally give me. At this rate, I could save $7.80 a year alone in bringing these free bags!  That’s awesome.

I’ve also been flat out denying bags. I rarely need them unless I am purchasing a lot - there’s no reason I can just throw it on the floor of my car if I’m going to bring it in right away. I feel so earth friendly, consumer friendly, and happy!
