Going to Guatemala!
Yep, That is were I will be from August 11-21, building homes in the village of El Estor, a small village on Lago de Izabal.
I will be participating in a Global Village Trip with Habitat For Humanity. I went to Alaska last year for a build, and am honored to be invited to help out with this one.

Years ago I said, the breakdown of society starts with the little things. One of those things is the rudeness of drivers. It seems like the rule is - get ahead at all costs. This morning, shortly before 7am, I was waiting at the intersection of Secor and Central. It is not uncommon to see 4 or 5 cars run this red light. This morning, a USPS truck drove through when my light was completely green.
The change I would like to see is on the local level - - let’s have some common courtesy for other people!

I would like it if everyone made eye contact as they passed or approached another person. Wouldn’t hurt to add a smile, too!

Oh, Debby, I so agree! These are our neighbors we are passing throughout the day and most won’t even look at you.

I love traveling and have been on 6 HFH builds in Central and South America. My husband and I went on a HFH build to San Juan la Laguna Guatemala last fall and I fell in love with the country. I notice the article about your trip talks about the Maumee chapter of HFH — the trip leader for our Guate trip last fall was from Maumee!
I was back this summer to do volunteer work and review projects for our organization and am looking forward to many more trips to Guatemala — with HFH or with the organization, Education And More.
I would love to see more people give more of themselves than they think is possible– to help their neighbor.
