Honor rolls

I’ve been working on a story about high school students and the pressure to succeed that they’re under. A school out East decided to not print the names of honor roll students because they’re under enough pressure as it is. They assume all students realize their names appear in the paper because of good grades.

Of all the students, principals and parents I spoke with for this story, everyone thought that the names of honor roll students should be published in the local paper. Does anyone think differently?

Does the school out East publish the name of the leading scorer or defensive player for the high school sports team?

Oh my gosh – Do folks really have nothing else to think about? I think kids who do well should be commended in whatever way the community wants, but making a federal case out of it (as my mom used to say) is kind of frivolous what with war, economic woes, health care costs, etc. Ray, I love your writing, and I love your take on things, but your boss really gave you the short end on this one – unless you can make it funny :)
