Filming in Newport
I was wondering if anyone was as surprised as I was to find out a portion of the movie “Jumper” was filmed in the backyard of a Newport couple. I was skeptical at first, but the family has tons of pictures and were more than willing to let the film crew rent their home for a day to film the scene and to talk to me about the whole experience.
If a couple of people knocked on your door and said they were looking for a place to shoot a movie scene, would you let them?

I don’t think I would. My uncle used to be a location manager and was the person knocking on the doors. They do some pretty sketchy stuff sometimes.
That said, I think this is going to become a more familiar experience for people in Michigan. The state passed some filming incentives last year that allow tax breaks for companies to shoot here. On the west side of Michigan, a film company just started up - called TicTock Studios, in Holland. (Disclaimer: I feel like a shill because I know one of the people involved, but it could mean big things for Michigan.)
