I know, I know, knock it off … ;-)

Ok, you have to have a [space] in front of it, and also provide the nose in the form of a hyphen. It’s three charcters, run together. Here are three examples, with spaces in-between to show what the characters are:

: - ) :-)
; - ) ;-)
: - D :-D
