That’s pushing it
I was on my way to work this morning listening to NPR and I heard something about Target selling wedding dresses on its Web site for less than $200.
First, I thought it was a joke and didn’t think too much about it. After I got to work, I searched around and found a few stories about the retailer offering the dresses in their “Cheap Chic” collection.
I have shopped at Target for numerous things, but I just can’t see myself buying a wedding dress from them or online for that matter.
I think it’s a nice alternative for people who may not be able to afford thousands of dollars on a wedding dress, but how nice can the dresses be?
I’m all for cutting some corners to save some money when it comes to the photography, food, etc. But a Target wedding dress- now that pushes my limit.
What do you think about Target selling wedding dresses online? Any takers? Would you buy a dress from them? Would you be embarrassed when people asked you where you got it and you said Target?

I don’t know about buying my wedding dress from Target but don’t be so quick to dis the online purchace. I didn’t buy my dress online but we did buy all my bridesmaids dress online. In fact I’ve ordered 3 bridesmaids dress for myself as well as 7 for my own bridesmaids from a website called Netbride. They are wonderful. In fact I’ve saved as little as $35 and upwards of $70 on these dresses because netbride is a discount website.
I would have bought my dress from them but my designer doesn’t sell to bridal shops for under the retail price so netbride coudn’t offer me a discount. With no discount I figured I may as well get measured by someone who knows what they are doing. Measuring yourself for a bridesmaid dress is easy, I’m not so sure about for a wedding dress.
Check it out! http://www.netbride.com

I guess it would just depend on the quality of the dress. Really, when you think about it, it’s probably not that different. The thousands of dollars charged for other dresses – what’s in that price? The material, the design and the labor. Unless you’re getting some kind of exotic silk or haute couture, there’s probably not all that much difference between off-the-rack dresses.
Some of the things I’ve gotten from Target have been spectacular and were high quality. Other things, not so much. But the same also goes for the higher price boutique stuff I’ve bought.

Stephanie, I guess to put it in perspective, how long do you wear a wedding dress for? I mean, really. It’s just one day in your life, and if the Target dress looks good, then why not?
As for me, my dress was a David’s Bridal $99 special (although I didn’t realize it until I had decided that I loved the dress. What a bonus to find out it was so cheap!!!).
I wouldn’t be embarrassed to say I bought my dress from Target. I told everyone how inexpensive my dress was and I was proud of it. It seems to me that it would be more important to save a buck and spend it elsewhere than to brag about wasting thousands of dollars on a gown that will only see the light of day once!

Shawna, I agree. I think I’d rather take the bucks and sink them into a trip somewhere with my guy. Seems like people are being sold on this one-day consuming bonanza that used to be all about beginning a life together and not so much about being a sparkly princess. When did the attention go from the love and union of the people getting married to the woman becoming this center-stage diva? Sometimes it seems like the groom is merely a supporting actor.
(Hey, don’t get me wrong, being a sparkly princess has its pluses too.)
