Granholm Supports Gas Tax and License Fees

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Right now Michigan car and truck owners pay 37 cents per gallon of gas in state and federal taxes, before the sales tax of 6% is added on.  At 2.50 a gallon, that is an additional 15 cents for a total of 52 cents per gallon at the pump.  Now the Governor wants to support a new tax that would place a cap at 34 cents just in state taxes.  That would raise the total tax bill to over 67 cents per gallon.  There are only 10 other states in the Union who charge more than Michigan already, this would push us into the top five.

In addition, get ready to pay more at the Sec. of State office the next time your birthday rolls around.  They want to add an additional 25 dollar fee to your license cost.  That’s not all, they want to place up to 10 to 20% higher fees on your vehicle registration.

Gee what happened to the shovel ready projects coming out of Obama’s stimulus bill.  That’s right, its gone to wasteful fantasy energy plans and some Wayne State professor studying whores in China.

Granholm to the Supreme Court: take her PLEASE

Friday, May 1st, 2009

There has been so much happening this week out of Washington, and while getting ready for a fishing tournament this weekend, there just has not been enough time trying to stay on top of it all.

Obama calling investors greedy because they had contracts with Chrysler,  these were people that were willing take a risk with the company for a low yield.  The hedge funds represent real people like retirees, teacher and community credit unions, not bureaucrats.  They certainly did not deserve to be threatened by the White House, as in one of the cases.  It got so bad they withdrew from the legal motions.

But, to stay on task here.  Somebody, anybody ship our governor out of town please!  The latest rumors involve her being placed on the Supreme Court when Sutter retires.  Its scary her being there, but there at least she is one voice, replacing one liberal with another.

If you are under any illusion as to what the governor has done to this state, go talk to your local small business owners.  Get their opinion, find out what they think of her business taxes, regulations and total indifference to their plight while she pursued her social agendas.

Granholm Gets One Thing Right Today

Granholm and Graduated Taxes

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Only a month or so ago, the governor claimed that she would not support any new taxes for this upcoming year.

Then two weeks ago, she was supporting a graduated fuel tax.  The more it costs, the more you pay.

Now our Canadian in Lansing is in favor of applying the same crippling philosophy to the state’s income tax system.  The more you work, the harder you strive, the more  you would be penalized for your achievement.

I remember a job back in the day while I was at EMU, where people didn’t want to work overtime because it would put them into the next bracket.  Me of course, while paying for school worked as much as I could. But imagine what will happen to the economy, job growth and new business growth if this tax plan is enacted.

There is no incentive to do better, another example of the Granholm’s socialistic perspective.

Free Spendin’ Jen, At it Again

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

When the good governor passes away, her tombstone just might read, “She never met a tax she didn’t like”.

First earlier this year,  she sneaks in higher auto registration prices while the economy tanks.

There are grumblings about ending the lifetime trailer plates, nobody buying boats, no new plates being sold.  Short sighted quick influx of cash several years ago.  I am keeping those babies waxed and polished to last a lifetime!

Now she is on the warpath about changing the tax on the fuel we put in our cars and trucks.  Lets face it, she liked the higher gas prices.  One it put a ton of dollars into the state’s coffers,  and being the eco-nut that she is, she liked that less people were driving.  Now she realizes (or maybe not) what those prices did for the overall economy of those on MAINSTREET.  Don’t you just hate those fancy buzzwords they create to label old problems.  Lets face it, she based her crazy spending agenda on tax created by higher fuel prices.  Now that well has dried up, pun intended.

There is not one thing that would lead folks on any STREET to believe that this state or federal government will do anything to keep fuel prices down.  They want them back up to four something a gallon, one so they can push their wind and battery tech foolishness.  They do not care what does to every regular Joe’s wallet, its all part of the agenda folks.

So when these gas prices rise again, your fuel will cost more that it ever did.  Forget the short view picture, its a fairy tale.  Write your Michigan congressmen, or woman (Hello Kate) and tell them Michigan’s fuel tax is already one of the top five in the nation,  and we do not want any new taxes on a system that is already failing.  Yes, the state’s roads are the pitts, as she put it, but if you look closely, that abhorrent stimulus bill is supposed to put people to work on them!  We do not need to be charged double for the same piece of construction!

Remind the Gov of the promise she made in February,  she might recall that she said she would not support ANY new taxes this year.

Really, can Obama make her a judge sometime soon, just to get her out of the state, please.

What to See Where the Stimulus is Going?

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Got this in an email this morning, now ask yourself this, where is all the money going that the state would have spent on these projects itself?

http://www.stimuluswatch.org/project/by_state/MI

What’s Detroit get?  Among other things that aren’t so wasteful, you get these gems…

Pervention programs dealing with nuitrition education, obesity and other childhood diseases Detroit MI 2 $400,000 CDBG -29

Infectious disease outreach Detroit MI 2 $350,000 CDBG -33

 aka:  STD’s

Remote meter reading Detroit MI 2 $1,250,000 Energy -16

 (already in place?)

Then they plan on using 88 million to change over the lightbulbs on the street lights…….

Not that I would want anything from this bill, but I noticed Monroe is not on the list.

Granny’s Vision During the State of the State

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

While the Governor focused on green tech, movie studios and cuts, there were some interesting proposals made during the State of the State address last night. Freezing auto insurance rates, is one of them.  It always amazed me that those who live in rural areas had their insurance jacked up because of problems like theft that occurred in the more urban areas, to offset the higher costs.  More of the spread the wealth mentality, take from those who can pay, and bail out those who cannot.  In a Detroit News article this morning, I like the argument made that they should have froze the rates on the health care system as well.  Isn’t health care the mainstay of the liberal banner, to have it ignored was puzzling.

Regardless of the questionable items mentioned, its the governor’s vision of a “granny” state, my take on the nanny state comparison by getting the gov. involved, that irks the most.  With several new coal plant proposals out there,  they now look to be delayed or never built with her 45 by 20 ideology.  45% of the states power to be supplied by wind and other green means by the year 2020.  She ignores the 1,000’s of jobs that the new plants would supply during construction and then to run the plants.  Jobs that the people of the state can do right now. Throw in the much needed revenue created by tax bases,  and its hardly a win/win idea. Plus its a proven source of power and not some questionable means that is far from proven reliable in the past.  One coal plan built on lets say 80 acres would produce the amount of power it would take 1,000’s of acres of wind turbines to do, and that’s with a constant and reliable source of wind.  There wasn’t any mention of nuclear plants, so that would leave one to guess that would be off the table as well.

Never mind what was said during the presidential campaigns, where no viable source of energy would be ignored.  If the state needs new sources of energy, take what we have now, build for the future, but do not ignore the needs of the people for reliable, cost effective energy now.

WJR Skewed to the Right?

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

The First Gentleman of Michigan claims that WJR, the station we all grew up with on the AM dial, leans to the right.  That is the feeling that comes from Dan Mulhern, the husband of Governor Granholm.  Most of the stink reported in today Detroit News stems from the delay of the broadcast of the governor’s schedule speech tonight.  In a scheduling conflict, due to L Brooks Patterson booking the time slot last spring.

In the article, they list all the shows on WJR; Paul W. Smith, Frank Beckman, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Dr. Laura and Mitch Albom.  So lets take a look at the local folks first, is there a lean to the right there?  Actually I see a pretty balanced outlook coming from Smith, Beckman and Albom.  I see Paul W. as Detroit’s version of Larry King, pretty much a softballer during interviews with a slight lean to the left.  Frank Beckman is definitely a conservative, and one of the few people who broadcast in the state, who feels global warming is a bunch of bunk.  Yet, he treats his celeb interviews with a courteous attitude.  I about laughed when I read that Mitch Albom was a “centralist” in the article.  He really is so far to the liberal left, and his socialistic views are pretty clear.

I will have to agree that the syndicated shows are to the right of the middle.  Rush is Rush, and he points out the differences with a rare comical humor at times.  Hannity, well what to say about Hannity.  I could do without the shouting sometimes, but he basically a Rush on steroids.  Levin, not my favorite, and at times can give the right the wrong outlook it needs to present.  He can be way out there.  Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s show I really do enjoy.  Why do you have to be labeled a “right winger” for presenting common sense parenting and social points of view.  Where there too many generations really screwed up by Dr. Spock to get the message?

So why all the conserative syndicated shows?  Because it sells, people listen, and people advertise.  There is a reason why the New York Times had to seek a bailout loan from a foreign investor, people are tired of the far left rhetoric.  Most folks don’t want a “nanny state”,  keep Big Brother out of my business.

After reading the article from Neal Rubin this morning, I really wish we had a “First Dude”, rather than a Canadian gentleman in Lansing.  Besides, if the left is screaming for a voice in Michigan, you already have the Detroit Free Press, and all the AP articles you want locally.

The Granholm Solution: Kill the Fair

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Of all the frivolous, non working, free spending, downright goofy programs that the Governor could look into to save the state money, one of her solutions is to kill the State Fair.  Lets pick the institutions first, the things that really benefit the people in certain areas of the state.  If you have never been to the state fair, its a great experience.  Even though its not in a great area, location wise, but for those who live their, many of them make most of their yearly income during the fair.  The vendors, parking folks and locals who come out to offer their wares.

Its the liberal solution, hit the folks with cutting programs that mean the most.  Never mind there are countless spending programs on the books that are proven to not to do one thing for the benefit of the people, lets pick the high profile ones that will really drive home the point of how bad we have driven the state’s finances into the ground.  Make the folks panic, worry some more, and then we can hit them with some more taxes to help pay for it all.

Sounds like a play out of President Obama’s playbook,  except Jenny thought of it first.  There goes the light bulb, now we know why she was included on the economic transition team!  It couldn’t have been for the fine job she has done in running our state.

Are the Rumors True, is the Good Governor Leaving?
