Sunday @ Stadium, Tigers Win

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Is there a better way to spend a Sunday, a Father’s Day, than at the ballpark and the home team wins?

It’s Flag Day, get ‘em up high

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Have you put your flag out yet today?  Today is Flag Day, here are some facts about the flag and the origin of it having its own day.

Goodbye Mr. Kell, Sad Day for Tiger Fans

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I was one of those kids with the little transistor radio on late at night, flashlight under the covers tuning in to hear Paul and Ernie broadcast the Tigers’ games on WJR.  But only because I would have been caught being up too later if I had snuck out to the living room to watch the game on TV on Channel 4.  My favorite broadcast team in Detroit sports, while I have been alive were two of the cities two greatest sports heroes, George Kell and Al Kaline.

They were the best, in my eyes because they added to the game and never tried to be more important than the game.  Something Tim Carver and Joe Buck could take a lesson about.  Both were gentlemen in the truest sense of the word, and just plain good people.  Kell had a way of speaking in that Arkansas drawl that made him my favorite play by play guy.  You could just tell the respect that Al Kaline had for him while working in the same booth, and the respect in turn that George had for Kaline.

Even though he played for the Tigers before I was born, it might have had something to do with him playing third base, as for the reason I liked him so much as a broadcaster.  Some of my favorite Tigers have played on the left corner;  Aurelio Rodriquez, Tommy Brookens, Travis Fryman and Brandon Inge.

Anyway, its a sad day.  The team, the league, as well the city and two states lost a great, great person in all respects.

Sunday’s Quick Hits

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

President Obama does not measure up to FDR.  While Roosevelt increased spending,  he encouraged the American people that better times were ahead.  Look up “Fireside Chats” to get a better feel.  Obama on the other hand, preaches doom and gloom in order to pass a lot junk the far left has been wanting for the past 30 years.

Obama’s appointees just cannot get a handle on the whole concept of paying taxes.  The whitewash about we need these people just does not cut it anymore.  The latest being Ron Kirk, who was picked to be the U.S. Trade Representative.  Its not an old story folks, this one was just last week.

Governor Granholm still does not grasp the concept that you cannot keep piling up taxes on the state’s struggling concept.  All you have to do is take a good look at California to see its a failed concept.

John Conyers is probably the first name listed under “Far Left Loon” in the dictionary.  Well maybe behind Schumer and Pelosi.

Obama’s foreign policy is looking much like his domestic philosophy, happening too fast, with little thought about long range consequences.

Its funny that while the Pres and those in the White House pass one piece of garbage after another (including changes in stem cell regs late Friday, after the Press is gone for the weekend), while the DOW continues to plummet due to lack of faith in stimulus and direction, the party and White House staff continues to focus their attention on Rush Limbaugh.  Look, he said if the President continues on the socialistic path, he hopes he fails.  Well me too, I do not want to be paying for someone else’s way through life.  Its a failed concept, and only drags the level of care and society down.

4.1 Billion for ACORN

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Can somehow explain to me how a group that registers voters over and over again, the same people mind you, can possible stimulate the economy?  First Obama tells McCain that pork spending is just a small part of the waste in Washington, and now as President he says spending is stimulus.  ACORN, spending, stimulus?  What,  for the court systems when they throw out the BAD registrations?

Good for the Detroit News/Rob Parker Suspended

Monday, December 29th, 2008

As a Detroit sports fan, I am just as disgusted by the Lions season as anyone else.  But call me old school, whatever you want,  but show some class in your criticism, make it constructive and be informed.  That said, of all the terrible reporters from the Detroit Papers, Rob Parker of the Detroit News crossed the line a few weeks ago.  In a day and age where a fake apology usually gets you off the hook, the Detroit News made a great decision in suspending Parker.

Its not the first time that Parker has leaped outside the box of  responsible sports journalism.  He has mislead readers several times in regards to articles he wrote or spoke about dealing with players from Michigan State.  In one case implementing the backup quarterback in some legal issues.  Totally false and proven so publicly by the local DA.  The latest case with his comments about Coach Marinelli’s daughter should be the final nail in his sports writing days in Detroit.

He called Hank Aaron a coward for not attending the games while Barry Bonds chased his home run record.  Heaven forbid a man with Aaron’s class not wanting to associate his name with a player who cheated his way to the top.  Or to possibly lend creditibiliy to this tainted record.

Its one thing to be critical, but this guy has a history of crossing the line.  Maybe it goes back to his radio days, or he thinks that his commentary on ESPN’s First Take/Cold Pizza is real life.  One thing for sure, he should be heading out of town.
