Obama pushes to Kick Auto Industry while they are down

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

As if the auto industry doesn’t have enough on their plate right now, the federal government is pushing for an average 35 mpg standard to be in place by 2016, a full four years sooner than was mandated under President Bush.  Obama will say that this is what Americans want, and that’s why car sales are so far down.

Its the same ol’ same from him, take advantage of any crisis/opportunity to push his far left agenda.  This all goes back to the housing crisis created by lending forced upon the banks by Clinton, ignored by Bush and perpetuated by Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Obama himself.  The top three recipients of campaign donations by Freddie and Fannie.

When people are forced to decide between a new car and keeping a roof over their heads, their money will be spent on the homes.  Americans don’t want to be forced to drive tiny cute/ugly Euro style vehicles.  They want their trucks, crossovers and suv’s.  They want you to drill now while you look for new technology.  Not force unproven wasteful tech on us while gas prices soar because they refuse to drill and use coal and natural gas.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124266939482331283.html

They want to raise your taxes on fuel to keep the price around $4 dollars a gallon, and force you to drive these tiny, wasteful, unsafe vehicles.  Wasteful because you have to produce electricity somewhere to plug the lil’ things in at night,  environmentally unfriendly because of the batteries they use up at increased rate, where do they plan on disposing these things?

Liberal Task Force Proposes MI Beer Tax Hike

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

A liberal task force for child welfare is proposing Michigan raise its’ beer tax to increase funding.  I realize that the tax has not been raised since 1966, but I am already paying 90 dollars a barrel for the kegerator out in the shop.  That is an 100% increase in what that same barrel cost in 1986.  Seriously how much is enough?

Don’t they get it, the higher you raise a tax you have two consequences.  One something is consumed less, or two I am heading for the Ohio border and purchasing my beer somewhere else!  Either way, the state loses funds that they already have budgeted in for the next year.  Then Granholm tries to come up with a new tax somewhere else to offset the lost funds.

Luckily, the proposal doesn’t seem to have any legs in the Republican controlled senate.  But, take part in your government and by all means contact Senator Randy Richardville and let him know what you think of the proposal.  Even if you disagree with me, contact him and let him know, take part in your government.  Email the senator here:

Now the EPA has Gone and Done It

Friday, April 17th, 2009

In another attack by the far FAR left,  the EPA led by Obama appointees has announced that CO2 is a danger to the public.   Now do not go and breath folks, because you expel this exact same gas.  Its the stuff that feeds the trees, plants and those gardens Mrs. Obama has been planting around the White House. From the Wall Street Journal:

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Friday issued a finding that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases pose a danger to the public, setting the stage for a battle over regulations that could have far-reaching impact on the U.S. economy.

Unless superseded by congressional action, the EPA finding potentially could lead to a wave of new regulations, putting stricter emissions limits on a wide range of enterprises from power plants and oil refineries to automobiles and cement makers.

The 99-year-old Capitol Power Plant, which heats and cools Congress, burns coal.

Business groups have warned that using the Clean Air Act to control greenhouse gases could result in costly new burdens for businesses. Environmental groups have cheered the signals that the Obama administration would declare greenhouse gases a danger.

The finding marks a significant turn in U.S. policy on climate change. The Bush administration didn’t submit the Kyoto climate treaty negotiated under President Bill Clinton to the Senate for ratification, citing that agreement’s failure to impose limits on China and other developing economies. With Friday’s finding, the U.S. takes a big step closer to European Union allies, which have agreed to Kyoto greenhouse gas limits and are pushing for a new treaty on climate change at a meeting scheduled for December in Copenhagen.

In announcing the proposed finding, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said the EPA analysis “confirms that greenhouse gas pollution is a serious problem now and for future generations” and warrants steps to curtail it.

White House officials made it clear Friday that President Obama still prefers a legislative approach to curbing global warming. The House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold hearings next week on an Obama proposal to cap carbon emissions and sell tradable permits that businesses must buy to emit carbon dioxide. The White House will dispatch senior officials to those hearings, an official said.

But Mr. Obama is under pressure to use the EPA’s findings as a cudgel as Democratic leaders push the difficult legislation. Reps. Edward J. Markey (D, Mass.), who heads House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s special climate-change panel, and Jay Inslee (D, Wash.) have said the endangerment finding provides the administration a regulatory backstop in the event that a tough climate change bill cannot get past a Senate filibuster.

For now, the White House official said, Mr. Obama won’t raise that specter. The EPA’s findings could force a regulatory response, but with court challenges and the balky regulatory process, that could take years.

The EPA finding come about two years after the Supreme Court found that carbon dioxide is a pollutant under the Clean Air Act and that the EPA can regulate it. EPA spokeswoman Adora Andy didn’t immediately return a phone call or an email seeking comment.

It isn’t clear how quickly the Obama administration will act to start writing new rules based on the EPA finding. Administration officials have said they prefer that Congress pass legislation to curb U.S. greenhouse-gas emissions using a cap and trade system. That would require businesses to buy permits to emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, and allow businesses that reduce their emissions to sell pollution rights to others. A cap and trade system is already operating in Europe.

A cap and trade system could allow businesses more flexibility to decide how to limit their emissions, and at what pace. It also would offer a potential reward to companies that move quickly to cut their emissions, effectively offsetting the costs of new technology. Imposing emissions limits using the Clean Air Act could hold businesses to more rigid timetables and performance standards, and wouldn’t offer the opportunity of profiting from selling unneeded pollution rights.

On a conference call Friday with environmentalists, EPA officials repeatedly stressed they would take a go-slow approach, with public hearings next month in Arlington, Va., and Seattle, before the findings are official. Even after that, any new regulations would go through a public comment period, public hearings and a long review process.

“Whatever the process it, it will be the time-honored and ordinary process of soliciting public input, comments, hearings, with time to digest, then come to conclusions,” an EPA official said. “The timeline will be consistent with very careful deliberations.”

But when pressed, another EPA official said the administration won’t leave it completely to Congress. “We are moving forward, regardless,” the official said. “We’re not thinking about this as a backstop. This is something legally mandated for us to do.”

Friday Thoughts: Beer Tax and more….

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Why is there a general lack of confidence these days when the words Barney Frank and financials are used in the same sentence?  Summed up in only three words; Fannie and Freddie!  He is at it again…  doubling down

The fuel tax credit farce where companies get a tax credit for blending alternative fuels.  Have to admit that some of the companies were pretty imaginative in their thinking, but still at the people’s expense.  Time to close this loophole.

First President Obama fires the head of General Motors, now he wants the company to get rid of the GMC brand, probably because they make the trucks that the people are actually buying and the company is turning a profit on!  In addition if Chrystler sells out to Fiat, the government will be in charge of picking out its new leader, with the help of Fiat.

JP Morgan  is trying to get out of the government’s control by repaying the borrowed TARP funds.

And finally before heading off to go fishing for the weekend….the Beer Tax.  Not here in Michigan, but in the Pacific coast state of Oregon, but you Jen…she never met a tax she couldn’t make her own.  In some really screwed up thinking by this liberal state government, they want to raise a tax in one of the only sectors of their economy that is growing, the micro breweries.  They have more in Oregon than any other state.  Now this would effect all beer sales, but would hit the micro’s harder than any other sector in the beer biz.  The new proposed tax on kegs would increase by 1,900%, in other words for every keg sold there would be a $52 dollar tax added to the bill!!!!!!!!!!!!  That’s an estimated 315 million more in cost for beer drinkers in 2009 compared to the year before.  Look for a beer party uprising in the state soon.

Monroe’s Tea Party: Pics and Thoughts

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

After looking through 40 pictures that I took yesterday, finding the ones that were actually in focus (that’s why you take duplicates) and getting them re-sized, finally ready to post.

Again, as I quickly wrote yesterday, this was a great event for all those who attended.  I met an 83 year old World War II vet who was in charge of all the electrical wiring at both the Monroe Power Plant and Fermi II when they were built.  Saw a dear friend from Maybee who I only see at the fair anymore.  Some old friends from the days working in Dundee.  The best part though was actually just saying “hello” and talking to different folks who came together with the same ideas in mind.

Government is too big, and intrusive.

Too many taxes, and the wasteful spending of those taxes.

Disdain for those elected to the state and federal government who do not read bills, or listen or respond to their constituents.

False hope from misleading campaign promises used just to get elected.  I know, nothing really new, but still aren’t you tired of it too?

Here are some pics of the event, and will have more later.

Monroe’s Tax Day Tea Party

Monday, April 13th, 2009

starts-and-stripes

I picked up some additional information while speaking to the director of Monroe’s own Tax Day Tea Party set for this Wednesday, Susan Trowbridge.  The rally is being held at St Mary’s Park, between 5 and 6pm, and all are welcome to attend.

Colors of the day are Red, White and Blue…naturally.  This is a non-party affiliation event, totally non-partisan.  Folks are encouraged to bring signs, just remember language please as it is a family event.

It is purely a patriotic event, kicked off with the National Anthem.  Other songs will be played, including John Rich’s working man’s anthem, “Shutting Detroit Down.”   Its not that taxes are completely a bad thing, but a slogan first used during the first round of Tea Parties a month of so ago rings true, “No Taxation without Deliberation.”  Read the bills first, think long term effects instead of grabbing as much headlines as possible for the next election.

With over 450,000 jobs leaving Michigan since 2006, most of the people in Michigan already know the effects of higher taxes has on a state’s economic growth.  You can build a battlefield to honor those who served and died to ensure our freedoms, but if the money to build was derived from higher taxes, who will have the money to come and visit.  Couple that with a host of additional taxes and the picture the long term effects on tourism throughout the state.

For the residents of Michigan the taxes are piling up.  As recently as March 27th new taxes were imposed on the people of the state.  New property taxes, additional taxes for the state parks, and before that new vehicle registration fees on top of new license fees.  All the people want are for those in charge not to be so short sighted.  Case in point, the trailer license plates.  In a foolish effort to gain a quick windfall of cash to support the governor’s programs,  the plates became permanent.  No problem for me, my four trailers are now fixed for life, but at what cost to the state for future income!  Think before you tax, think before going for the quick fix, and look at the disastrous results that will take place down the road.

As of now, our area representatives to the state government have not committed to the event, although they were asked.  Help out and encourage them to come and see what the people of their districts feel about the situation in our state.  You can email Rep. Kate Ebli and Sen. Randy Richardville at the following addresses.

kateebli@house.mi.gov

senrichardville@senate.michigan.gov

Ask the Monroe Evening News to come out and cover the event.  I cannot think of a better feel good story for them to share with the county, than folks coming together and having their First Amendment voices heard.  Last Friday while enjoying one of the area’s traditional Good Friday fish fries, all the talk centered around the event being held on Wednesday with many planning on attending.

Now all I have to do is find my red, white and blue garb to attend.

Tax Day Tea Party in Monroe, and Around the Country

Friday, April 10th, 2009

The small tea parties that started a few months ago have grown by leaps and bounds and will reach record numbers on April 15th.  A lot of this has been ignored in the media, although some have been diligent in their reporting on the grass roots demonstration over government spending and new tax proposals.

This isn’t a democratic vs republican thing, its people tired of paying their fair share, and their brother’s too.  Its about busting your hump to provide a living for your family, while congress fails to read bills before they are sent to be a law, that takes more money out of your pocket.  It might not be in the form of an income tax, it could be a tobacco tax, beer tax, gas tax, cap and trade tax or simply a tea tax.  Tax is tax, you cannot sugar coat it, it takes money out of your pocket,  then goes through the government, where they put it in somebody else’s pocket.

Where to go in Michigan, there isn’t just one to go to either and there will be one right here in Monroe at St. Mary’s Park.

When: April 15, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
Where: St. Marys Park, corner of Elm and Monroe Streets

Here are some comments from around the country taken from a few sites I found.  This is a real underground/grass roots movement.  There were literally too many sites to post all the links.  The left in the media just do not want you to know about it………..  You won’t see a million at a single party (more than likely), but you will see millions from across the country gettting together to have their voices heard.

Granholm and Graduated Taxes

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Only a month or so ago, the governor claimed that she would not support any new taxes for this upcoming year.

Then two weeks ago, she was supporting a graduated fuel tax.  The more it costs, the more you pay.

Now our Canadian in Lansing is in favor of applying the same crippling philosophy to the state’s income tax system.  The more you work, the harder you strive, the more  you would be penalized for your achievement.

I remember a job back in the day while I was at EMU, where people didn’t want to work overtime because it would put them into the next bracket.  Me of course, while paying for school worked as much as I could. But imagine what will happen to the economy, job growth and new business growth if this tax plan is enacted.

There is no incentive to do better, another example of the Granholm’s socialistic perspective.

Tea Parties Around The Country

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

coopertp2While the liberal press made note of some of the small turnouts around the country for the basically unorganized, unscripted protests of new Washington spending, they fail to see the point.  They forget the actual size of the original Boston Tea Party, where a small fistful of dedicated patriots made one small act symbolic for the feelings of a nation on its way to being born.

The Sons of Liberty were not numbered by the thousands, but by the tens, maybe if you stretch it, by the hundreds around the colonies.  So when you hear of the small turnouts, think back in perspective, and realize its not the numbers, but the growing sentiments around the nation today that are key.  These weren’t people looking for handouts like other bigger demonstrations in recent memory, all they want is the chance to stand on their own two feet, to live their lives like they were promised by right of birth,  and to make their own fortunes without them being plundered by politicians of any party affiliation.

Here at home, Lansing, Michigan.  Across the country they gathered:

Cleveland, OH

Houston, and Austin, TX

Denver, Colorado

San Diego, CA

Sacramento, CA

Atlanta, GA

Tampa Bay, and Orlando, FLA

Hartford, CT

Shelby, Alabama

Chicago, IL

Portland, Nashville, Oklahoma City, North Carolina,  and many more.

Here are some of my favorite pics that were found online this morning.  You won’t find anyone asking to pay their bills, find them better jobs or sitting on their tails while the people pay their way.
