As a spinoff feature from the Miss Michigan pageantry discussions this week, Lisha Arino of the Muskegon Chronicle interviewed some business and professional women in west Michigan about how beauty and appearances go well beyond one’s physical attributes.

The headline – Local women: Looking ‘put together’ for success not just for Miss Michigan contestants.

. individuals carry themselves also matters, said Cindy Larsen, president of the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce.

She said employers today are not just looking for workers who dress appropriately but who also have “soft skills” – things like looking someone straight in the eye, speaking clearly in a strong voice and standing up straight.
