Friday’s results
Friday, October 24th, 2008Whitmore Lake 14, Whiteford 0 – The Bobcats put up a stiff test vs. 8-1 Whitmore Lake, but a late second quarter touchdown and a third quarter score was enough for the Trojans who could have a home playoff game.
Congratulations to the Summerfield Bulldogs, a first-time qualifier to the state playoffs. The Bulldogs are 6-3 and beat Britton-Deerfield 12-0 tonight to get in for coach Erik Johnson in his first season.
Tonight’s games: Undefeated season?
Friday, October 24th, 2008Here’s a few notes about tonight’s TCC games:
Sand Creek is trying to post its 11th undefeated TCC season tonight when it plays Madison.
Summerfield will clinch its first-ever playoff berth with a win against Britton-Deerfield.
Clinton can qualify for the playoffs with a win against Morenci.
Whitmore Lake is going for its first eight-win regular season since 1986 when it travels to Whiteford.
Should be a fun night.
Great year for kickers
Thursday, October 23rd, 2008This is shaping up as a great year for kickers in the TCC.
Won Kun Park of Whitmore Lake has tied a league mark with five field goals. One more and he breaks the record now held by Fred Kutzke (Whiteford in 1993) and Andrew Rhoads (Whiteford in 2005).
Park also has scored 37 points in league games, breaking the previous record held by Sand Creek’s Scott VanDevelde in 1987 who made 27 extra points and kicked three field goals for 36 kicking points in league play).
That’s some good memories for the South Korean exchange student to take home after this season.
Clinton’s Steve Embry has made 15 extra points and kicked two field goals.
Morenci’s Nicholas Wilson has a field goal among his 10 league kicking points.
Sand Creek’s Lucas Ulrich has made 20 extra points and kicked a field goal.
I’m still checking, but this might be the season with more field goals than any previous TCC season.

3. John Los, Whitmore Lake, 54
4. Travis Pant, Whiteford, 48
5. Brandon Brewer, Clinton, 44
6. Chas Frey, Morenci, 42

Guess who leads TCC in TD passes?
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008
Summerfield’s Mike Hewitt is the TCC passing leader as far as touchdown passes go. With a game remaining, Hewitt has 10 TD passes. Chase St. Charles of Whitmore Lake has 8 and Brandon Brewer of Clinton has 7. (The league record, by the way, is 15 TD passes in a single season, held by Sand Creek’s Matt Evans in 2005 – these records count TCC games only, not all regular season games)
In TD receptions, Robert McIntyre (WL), Zach Brewer (Madison) and Eric Cogan (Summerfield) all have 5.
In overall points, Jesse Sexton of Clinton leads the league with 68 points so far.
Ayers increases title lead
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008Sand Creek’s Ernie Ayers has wrapped up his 13th TCC football crown. He also has won 13 boys track league titles, giving him 26 overall league championships – more than any other league coach. (Whiteford’s Kris Hubbard is second with 9 girls basketball, 4 volleyball and 10 softball titles.)
Here’s a list of TCC coaches with the most all-time titles in one sport:
15 Darrell Polter (Summerfield), baseball
13 Sandy Clark (Whiteford & Morenci), volleyball
13 Ernie Ayers (Sand Creek), boys track
13 Ernie Ayers (Sand Creek), football
10 Bob Arnold (Sand Creek), girls track (I don’t have the 2007 and 2008 girls track results in front of me, so this doesn’t include if Arnold coached the Aggie girls to the league titles those years).
10 Kris Hubbard (Whiteford), softball
Basketball schedules are coming!
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008Got my first TCC boys and girls basketball schedule in the mail yesterday when the Whiteford schedules arrived. That’s a sure sign that winter is coming.
Whiteford’s boys team has 16 league games, 2 tournament games at Toledo Emmanuel Christian (Emmanuel Christian, Lenawee Christian, Toledo Bowsher – coached by ex-Bobcat coach John Rice – and Whiteford are the entries as far as I know), and non-league dates with Blissfield and Ann Arbor Greenhills. In looking closer at the boys schedule, there are only two home Friday night games. I’ll start posting schedules as I get them.
Check back for them.
