Whitmore Lake’s Robert McIntyre has been named to the Associated Press 2008 Division 5-6 All-State football team. He caught 45 passes for 886 yards and 8 touchdowns for the Trojans.

1989 Whiteford All-State boys basketball player Barry Jones has started his second season as head boys varsity basketball coach at Campbell County High School in Jacksboro, TN. His Cougars won the opener, 75-49, over Cumberland Gap.
Jones has coached prep basketball in Tennessee for several years. First he started the program at Sycamore High School. Within a couple years the War Eagles were a power, advancing to the state tournament three consecutive years. Jones then coached at Obion County Central before landing in Campbell County. His Cougars went 14-14 last year and have several returning players this year in what he hopes is a good season. Tennessee rules are much different than Michigan — for one, they play a lot more games!

I’m starting to collect boys basketball information for season previews of each team. I have learned a few new things about this TCC season:
Dave Arnold will only be coaching Whitmore Lake’s boys team this year. Casey Livingston is the new Trojan girls basketball coach. Dave did the impossible last year by coaching both varsity squads.
Sid Disbrow is the new varsity head coach at Sand Creek, replacing Charlie Risner. Risner is the second-winningest coach in TCC history and has more league basketball championships than anyone else.
Jay Haselschwerdt is the new girls basketball coach at Whiteford, replacing Jim Ross, who is the new boys basketball coach at Whiteford. Ross steps in for Bobcat graduate Brad Stevens, who spent 20 years coaching JV and varsity basketball and Whiteford and led the team into the Regional final last year.

Today is the first day of official boys basketball practice across the state. Girls practice began last week.

The All-TCC volleyball team has been announced. It was picked by the league’s coaches:

Madison’s volleyball team will play in Thursday’s Reigonal final against Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central after the Trojans defeated Whitmore Lake 25-23, 19-25, 25-22 and 25-20 Tuesday.
Madison improved to 33-10-5.
Whitmore Lake finished its great season 35-5-2.

TCC volleyball fans can catch two TCC teams in action tonight at Madison.
Whitmore Lake will take on Adrian Madison at 7 p.m. in the second game of a Class C Regional doubleheader.
Monroe St. Mary CC (who eliminated Whiteford Saturday) takes on Hanover-Horton at 5:30 in the first game. The winners meet Thursday at 6 p.m. in the finals.
