Friday, May 22nd, 2009The Adrian Telegram covered the Clinton-Tecumseh softball game the other day and had this to say about Clinton ninth-grader Tierney Nelson’s season:
- She has 5 no-hitters
- She has 12 shutouts
- She struck out 17 in her varsity debut
- She has a 16-2 record
- Clinton is now 30-5 and the TCC champ.

Thursday, May 21st, 2009Jake Ritzenthaler has set a Monroe County Region record with 62 RBI this season.
Ritzenthaler knocked in five runs in a two games yesterday (Whiteford beat Morenci and Sand Creek), increasing his season total to 62.
The Monroe Evening News has been compiling season final statistics in baseball since 1971. Until now, the most any single-season RBI leader in the Region had was 59 by Toby Kominek of Erie Mason in 1991. Jake has surpassed that total heading into the District tournament next week.

10 things (so far) you need to know
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009Here are 10 things you need to know about TCC spring sports (in no particular order):
1. Clinton freshman softball pitcher Tierney Nelson has five no-hitters so far this season and the Redskins have the best record of any TCC softball team (27-5).
2. Whiteford first baseman Jake Ritzenthaler has 57 RBIs on the season after knocking in two runs Monday.
3. Clinton’s baseball team is 11-1 in the TCC with two games to play. Whiteford’s baseball team is 9-3.
4. Sand Creek’s boys track team repeated as Regional track champ last weekend and has a host of state qualifiers.
5. Whiteford freshman Cheyanne McCartney didn’t start running in the 100 until midway through the season, but won a Regional championship and qualified for state in another event.
6. Clinton’s baseball team has set a single season record for victories. The Redskins won their 24th game over this past weekend.
7. According to Saturday’s Adrian Telegram, Madison claimed the TCC golf championship. That’s the first-ever TCC golf title for Madison.
8. Britton-Deerfield’s Cris Ringman led the TCC golfers in scoring average this season.
9. Madison’s girls finished second in the Division 3 Regional at Erie Mason.
10. Clinton is not the only softball team with a bright future on the mound. Summerfield ninth-grader Emily Puterbaugh pitched a no-hitter last week against Whitmore Lake and has picked up several other pitching wins.
