Think Geek

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

I haven’t visited ThinkGeek.com in a while, but every time I do I find the most amazing things.
USB Laser Guided Missile Launcher: You’ll be the hit of the office.. or looking for a new job with this gadget, or, as referred to on the site: “the latest from the Department of Desktop Warfare.”
Strobe-e Keychain Tuner: A guitar tuner, bottle opener and flashlight, all in one! I am placing my order on this one now!
Marshmallow Shooter: These are just too cool. I’d get one, but I’d be afraid my dog would eat all of my ammo before I had a chance to reload.
T-Clock T-Shirt & T-Qualizer T-Shirt: Battery powered t-shirts. If you’re wearing one of these, I suggest to stay out of the rain!

Mask your phone number with CraigsNumber.com. It’s simple and free. Open the site and a number will be given to you. You can choose how long you’d like the number to be active. Type in your number, where the calls will be forwarded to - and there you have it. Perfect if your selling an item on e-bay or Craigslist and you don’t really want to be giving your phone number out to strangers.

Code Monkey

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Check out Jonathan Coulton’s Code Monkey, about a lonely computer programmer. Very cool “geek-rock” tune. Makes you think of the code guy that sits in the back corner a little differently.
I’ve been pretty stuck on this song lately, so I really enjoyed the various versions these musicians made up for the “Code Monkey Remix” contest.
See Jonathon’s website @ JonathonCoulton.com.

Pandora

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Pandora.com: Most music junkies have already been using this site for a couple years now, but for those of you who haven’t checked it out - be sure to do so. Its quite simple; put in your favorite band/music, and your own radio station is born. The Pandora system will feed you constant music pertaining to the band that you’ve entered in. Example: I chose Bob Marley as one of my favorites. Each song played is either Bob Marley, or reggae songs by various bands in the Pandora system. This is an awesome way to find new music.
I mention this today, because they’ve recently added some social networking additions to the site - see the TechCrunch story for more.

Friday links

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Online Karaoke: I’m not a huge karaoke fan, but this site is worth checking out. Sign up, pick out a song and sing into your computer microphone. Your track is recorded and posted to the site, where others can rate your performance. Wow.

Danny & Nina: Maybe not so tech related, but I thought this was great. This couple wants to move to a new city, and has decided to let the internet world vote to where they will move to. So far, South Bend Indiana is in the lead.

Classical Music for Free: Classic Cat has a ton of free mp3 files of classical music.

Pimp your picture: Upload a photo of a friend and add hats, beards etc. View other creations in the gallery.

Audio Forums: Chinswing is a site where you can record your thoughts on a topic, and others can record their thoughts back. Creating conversations is what the site is all about.

My Grocery Deals!

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

I was leery about signing up for yet another website, but this is way worth it - and if this really takes off, could be the future of grocery shopping. A simple sign up of your email address and zip code takes you to a list of local stores. You can look at their sale items for the week (skim flyers) or look for sale items by category. When you find a good deal, you can add it to a grocery list. When your finished, the site tallies up how much you’ll save (compared to the regularly priced item), and you have an option to print/email the grocery list. Check it out: MyGroceryDeals.com
