Sunday surfing links

Bubble.us - Brainstorm and create flow charts quick and easy. Try it for free before you register. Very cool, I’m still trying to think of what I would use it for.

Goodstorm.com - Design a t-shirt and sell it!

AmieStreet.com - Find/Buy/Sell independent music. I dig music of all kinds, so I signed up for this site. It’s a bit confusing, and I didn’t hear anything that I liked right off the bat. I do like how it all works. An artist can post their digital music up, starting for free. Based on listens or purchases, the price goes higher.. And the prices I saw were all around .05 cents per mp3 - I think the largest price I saw was like .30 cents.
I’ll spend some more time on this later to see if I can find my way around better. Great idea if it takes off.

Gubb.net - I’m a big fan of making to do lists. Gubb is awesome at it. Make your to do or grocery list, and with a click of a button text it to your phone. Or cross items off as you go. You can also share the list, and have other people add items to it.

LifeTango - have a new years resolution or a goal that your trying to commit to? Check out this website, create a new “life list” and find others with the same goals. Meet new friends and help each other stay on task.

TasteSpotting! I really dig this site. A page full of amazing food photos, with links to their recipes. Make a mean hamburger helper?! Take a picture and submit it! :)

Quizlet: Vocabulary learning made easy - all packaged in an easy to read, simple to use website.
From the site:
1. You enter a vocabulary list of any words or data you want. (ex. SAT words, history dates, French-Spanish translations, etc.)
2. Quizlet gives you a specialized learning mode, flashcards, randomly-generated tests, and collaboration tools for classmates to help you study those words.
3. You ace your test.
- I’d like to also note that this was all created by a 15 year old. Brilliant!

Profane Game: Having a bad day? Take your aggressions out with this game. Type as many profane words as you can in 1 minute and see how you score.

Thanks to TechCrunch and Lifehacker for some of these links.

Sing a song, find a song

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Amazing. I’m speechless. Although I’ve only done one test, I’m literally impressed. Hit up Midomi.com and hopefully you receive the results I did.
The site is basically a singing/song community website. The first and most amazing part, is you can sing or hum a few seconds of a song that your looking for, and it finds them. I tested it with a few seconds of Mrs. Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel.
The search results show the original artist where you could choose to listen to an exert from the song, and even purchase it for .99 cents.
The search results also bring you a list of registered users that have recorded themselves singing these songs. You can rate them, message them and add them to your friends list.
I could see using this website as a search tool for that song you might have heard on the radio, but missed the name of the artist. If you remembered the chorus/tune, you could hop on Midomi, sing what you remembered and find the song/artist, make a purchase, then enjoy other renditions of the song.
O.K., enough blogging.. I’m going back to Midomi to sing some more songs.. :)

BibleMap.org

BibleMap.org - I’m impressed with this website. Choose a book in the bible, a chapter, and the text will appear in the box below. The entire bible is in this site! Amazing. Locations appear as links throughout the scripture. You can click on a link, and you will be directed to that location using Google Maps. You can also see maps of biblical journeys. These folks put a lot of time into this site. Great work.

Pimped Out John! Check your email, watch a movie, listen to your iPod, play video games, have a cold beer, all while sitting on this magical throne. See Roto-Rooter for your chance to win!

Filesharing: Add file sharing to your myspace or website with BoxWidget. Add music, videos photos and files for friends to download. Interesting, and an easy way for folks to transfer files that may not be so tech-savy!

The coffee mug mouse. How cool is that. Drinking coffee and working has never been so much fun.

Make Google Laugh! - Type in a joke or phrase and you will be rated on how funny it was. I typed in a few random words and was rated 14%. I need to try it with a joke now, as soon as I remember the punch line.

Mp3 Download Station - coming to Starbucks soon. Wow, I swear I thought of this first. Can you patent ideas?! :)

Dude, that’s not tech related, but worth checking out anyhow:

Things my boyfriend says: A website/blog of actual quotes from this girls boyfriend. He says some pretty funny stuff, you’ll get sucked in and be laughing in no time.

Blood test kit - Find out what blood type you are from the comfort of your own home! What will they think of next.

Geni!

Another cool new site. Geni lets you create a family tree through a fun and simple interface. When you add a relative’s email address, he or she will be invited to join your tree. That relative can then add other relatives, and so on. Each family member has a profile which can be viewed by clicking their name in the tree. This helps family members learn more about each other and stay in touch. Family members can also share information and work together to build profiles for common ancestors. What a cool idea! I’ve already started mine..

Rate what you ate! Menuism.com is a restaurant review site with all of the bells and whistles of a Web 2.0 site. So far, Monroe Michigan has not had any restaurant reviews. If I get some time tonight, I’m going to get on there and rave about Beeks Bar and Grill’s amazing Crab Bisque! :)

Odeo player for bloggers

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

I found an easy way to embed tunes into a blog post with a simple copy/paste code drop.
See this website for details and the code. Be sure your in the html edit view when placing this code. After you paste the code, just replace the [MP3 file address], with a website link to your mp3. Here’s an example of how it will look:

The Mountain Goats - This Year

Looking for mp3 files posted online? I can usually find anything with the amazing SingingFish.com. Enjoy!

MyPunchBowl.com - Planning a party? This is a pretty slick site for creating your party plans and inviting people all with a very simple interface. Site integrates Google Maps as well as a comment posting section for party guests to alert you whether they’ll be attending or not. Now I have a reason to throw a party - so I can try this site out!

If your a geek like me, you’ve probably already seen everything that was at last weeks Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. All of the big tech bloggers were on site, recording videos of some of the most amazing concept and newly released gadgets of 2007. CNET has just released the Best in Show Awards on their site. To see more of the CES - on a down to earth level, check out Jonathan Coulton’s (Code Monkey) blog for a few great videos of exciting new gadgets.

1-800Free411 - Away from a phone? Find all the free phone numbers you need right here. Has this website heard of Google?!! :)

TheFoundBin.com - Lose something? Check out this lost and found website using Google Map technology. I lost my bottle opener key chain somewhere between Monroe and Grand Rapids, wonder if I should post that.

Travel Gadgets! The cell phone projector is interesting - cell phones need to advance a little further first though.

FootNote.com - Access millions of original documents - most never seen on the web before.
I checked this out, some of the content is free, most you have to pay for. Some very rare stuff on here, I was browsing through old Civil War photos. Interesting.

Cell Start: Start your car from your cell phone. Of course, you need to install an automatic car starter, but after that you can send a message from anywhere to start your vehicle. No longer do you have to be in a specific range to remotely start your car. WOW.

Women purchase half of the vehicles sold in the United States each year, spending billions of dollars a year in new car purchases. Yet, shopping for and buying a car can be a challenge for women who are first time car buyers or for women who had a bad experience in the past with a car salesman or dealership.

The Ask Patty.com, Inc. web site is a safe place for women to get advice on car purchases, maintenance and other automotive related topics.

Finetune: Very cool random music player - nice interface, good stream, very fast.

Top 5 most innovative gadget concepts
- Check out the Information Ring concept: Created by Hideaki Matsui, “Information Rings” are basically rings that store “the wearer’s personal information, so when a handshake puts two rings close together they exchange the stored info, making small talk and introductions unnecessary.”

BringFido! - Find pet friendly hotels.

TubeTorials: Tutorials on web development and more - free!

PC Gamer Bike: Looking to get in shape this winter, but you can’t seem to put down the video game controller? Check this out (picture).

Super caffeinated coffee! “..super- caffeinated beans are amplified by the addition of yerba mate, a powerful natural stimulant and antioxidant used by shamans of the Amazon for boosting stamina and mental clarity.” Wow.

Foonz: Remember the days of three way calling? I’m sure it still exists, I just haven’t used it in a while. Foonz allows you to set up a group call to several people that are invited by instant message or text messaging. The invitee calls in, and links up to the group call. Very interesting!

CellTrade: This site has been floating around blogs this week, it’s worth a look. It’s a resource for getting out of your cell phone contract early. I dug through the site a bit, and couldn’t quite figure it out - if anyone tries it let me know, I might need to use this when i get my new iPhone! :)

Pinger - “Friends don’t let friends text and drive.” Pinger allows you to send voice mail messages via email. I’m going to put this to test this weekend.. so watch out everyone, you’ll be getting email voice messages from me.

MapWing: Create virtual tours with photographs. This is a really cool concept.

That’s it for now. Have a good weekend!
