Last year, I decided to do something crazy. To keep up with a steady running plan I had been following, I decided to take it one step further, and train for the Detroit Free Press Marathon. If any of you have ever done a marathon, you know, it’s not just waiting for the big day to arrive, and attempting to run 26.2 miles. It’s the training that is the biggest task.
Being the tech-geek that I am, I decided to first, purchase a Garmin Forerunner 201. This is a GPS watch, that tracks my mileage, pace, time and speed all through a satellites.
I also, found a website thanks to one of my favorite podcasts, Phedippidations, called BuckeyeOutdoors.com. With BuckeyOutdoors, you can track your daily workouts, diet, etc. You can check out other profiles (mine), and pick up ideas from others. Visit the forums to discuss running, load a running plan or even post your daily workout on your blog.
For me, this was the easiest online tracking tool I’ve found, and believe me, I’ve tested out a bunch of them. It seemed to be a great motivational tool too, to be able to track my progress. So, sign up for the site, strap on those old running shoes and burn off all of those extra helpings of turkey and egg-nog you couldn’t resist this winter.
