WaveBox: The first ever (that I know of) portable microwave. The example in the photo shows this being used for something practical like camping. Me? I’d have this sitting on the passenger seat in my car ready at all times for my spontaneous gas station microwave burrito cravings. :)

Xcuse Box. This is really cool. It’s a mini sound box, key chain size, that holds up to 10 minutes of pre-loaded background sounds. So if you’re on the phone with someone and they are rambling on and on - pull out the xcuse box, click a button and magically you’re at the auto shop! Sounds of cars trying to start, air wrenches zinging in the background… “oh, hey I have to let you go - I’m at the auto shop and the mechanic wants to talk to me..

Edible Chess. Cookie cutter chess pieces, so when you’re done playing, you can eat the chess pieces. Always been why I haven’t learned chess, the pieces just look good enough to eat!

Pimped Out John! Check your email, watch a movie, listen to your iPod, play video games, have a cold beer, all while sitting on this magical throne. See Roto-Rooter for your chance to win!

Filesharing: Add file sharing to your myspace or website with BoxWidget. Add music, videos photos and files for friends to download. Interesting, and an easy way for folks to transfer files that may not be so tech-savy!

The coffee mug mouse. How cool is that. Drinking coffee and working has never been so much fun.

Make Google Laugh! - Type in a joke or phrase and you will be rated on how funny it was. I typed in a few random words and was rated 14%. I need to try it with a joke now, as soon as I remember the punch line.

MyPunchBowl.com - Planning a party? This is a pretty slick site for creating your party plans and inviting people all with a very simple interface. Site integrates Google Maps as well as a comment posting section for party guests to alert you whether they’ll be attending or not. Now I have a reason to throw a party - so I can try this site out!

If your a geek like me, you’ve probably already seen everything that was at last weeks Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. All of the big tech bloggers were on site, recording videos of some of the most amazing concept and newly released gadgets of 2007. CNET has just released the Best in Show Awards on their site. To see more of the CES - on a down to earth level, check out Jonathan Coulton’s (Code Monkey) blog for a few great videos of exciting new gadgets.

1-800Free411 - Away from a phone? Find all the free phone numbers you need right here. Has this website heard of Google?!! :)

TheFoundBin.com - Lose something? Check out this lost and found website using Google Map technology. I lost my bottle opener key chain somewhere between Monroe and Grand Rapids, wonder if I should post that.

Travel Gadgets! The cell phone projector is interesting - cell phones need to advance a little further first though.

FootNote.com - Access millions of original documents - most never seen on the web before.
I checked this out, some of the content is free, most you have to pay for. Some very rare stuff on here, I was browsing through old Civil War photos. Interesting.

Cell Start: Start your car from your cell phone. Of course, you need to install an automatic car starter, but after that you can send a message from anywhere to start your vehicle. No longer do you have to be in a specific range to remotely start your car. WOW.

Apple iPhone

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Well folks, here it is. The long awaited, new and improved Apple iPhone. If you remember, Apple released a phone a year or so ago, that was a complete flop. I think this one, if it does all it says it can do, will definitely out-do the previous.
The iPhone has a list of amazing features. Not only is it a telephone, but it also serves as an mp3 player, a web browser (wi-fi enabled), touch screen display, video playback.. the list goes on and on. The iPhone will cost between $499 and $599 depending on the hard drive size. I bet this price will come down substantially with a 2 year contract. My only concern is that the carrier is Cingular. I haven’t heard too many good things in the past about Cingular’s coverage.. but now I’m curious. Anyone with a Cingular phone care to enlighten me on the coverage? Well, I look forward to seeing this come out. If the price is right, and the phone does what their saying it can do - I might just own one of these soon!

Think Geek

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

I haven’t visited ThinkGeek.com in a while, but every time I do I find the most amazing things.
USB Laser Guided Missile Launcher: You’ll be the hit of the office.. or looking for a new job with this gadget, or, as referred to on the site: “the latest from the Department of Desktop Warfare.”
Strobe-e Keychain Tuner: A guitar tuner, bottle opener and flashlight, all in one! I am placing my order on this one now!
Marshmallow Shooter: These are just too cool. I’d get one, but I’d be afraid my dog would eat all of my ammo before I had a chance to reload.
T-Clock T-Shirt & T-Qualizer T-Shirt: Battery powered t-shirts. If you’re wearing one of these, I suggest to stay out of the rain!

Holiday shopping for the tech-fan in the family

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Here are some of the more popular tech-related gift ideas of 2006.

Game systems: The Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii are probably the two hottest items this year on christmas lists. Other hot portable gaming systems this year include the Play Station Portable and Nintendo DS Lite.
Portable MP3 players are still a hot item. The Microsoft Zune is creating some competition with the Apple iPod. The Zune offers features like, larger viewing screen, better resolution and Wi-Fi capabilities. The Apple iPod is still a great gift, there are some cheaper options including the iPod Nano and for $79 - the Shuffle.

Of course, if your tech geek of the house doesn’t have a DVR yet, it’s for sure a must. I’d recommend Comcast DVR if you have the service available. Tivo is another option, which owns the market in the DVR biz, but from what I’ve been hearing, Comcast is cheaper, has a couple more features and is easier to use.

Along with the DVR, your going to need a flat screen plasma television along with a surround sound system - although, I’m probably getting out of your price range.

A couple cheaper gifts, and perfect for those you aren’t sure what to get:
Netflix: I tried this out last year and loved it. Just make sure you have the time to watch the movies! I cancelled over the summer when I was too busy, but plan to renew my subscription very soon.
iTunes Gift Card - choose from $15, $25 or $50 iTunes gift cards for the music lover in the family. You don’t need an mp3 player to use iTunes, as long as you have a cd burner. Most songs are all .99 cents, albums cost $9.99.

If your really stumped on a gift, check out FindGift.com. This site takes you through a survey for who your buying for, and presents you with a bunch of ideas based on the answers to the survey.
Be sure to check out Black Friday Ads before heading out shopping to get an idea what each store will be offering.
