Hi Tommy and thanks for commenting.

The State Senate recently considered a smoking ban in the State of Michigan; as recently as this past spring I believe.

Many of our local establishments have dedicated smoking and non smoking sections that are very well separated - in fact just about every establishment I mentioned that my wife and I like to eat at.

I don't fully support enacting smoking bans on a broad scale like we've seen in Ohio and other states. While I agree that smoking at restaurants isn't the most appealing and that perhaps a ban on smoking in restaurants is reasonable at the same time it is difficult for me to support the state forcing a business decision on a business owner.

Through the laws of supply and demand one would assume that if the demand for non smoking restaurants and the like were high then business owners would make that decision on their own and some have. Like I said I could see this in retaurants however it seems patrons of bars and bowling alleys are largely smokers.

My two cents. To answer your question though .. it only effects my decision of the children are going with me.

As someone who lives out of state and came to visit for the recent Thanksgiving holiday, I must admit that I am somewhat surprised that the State of Michigan has not passed a smoking ban yet. I find that while visiting my family I prefer to go to Ohio to eat because of the smoking ban. Just wondering if the idea of smelling like an ashtray hinders anyone elses decision on where to dine.
