There is a fantastic conversation going on at Bedford Now’s Chatter section regarding parks and recreation in our community.
This is an area where I strongly feel like our community is lacking. We aren’t able to pass a levy to fund the maintenence and upkeep of our parks. We aren’t able to afford to begin construction on the new park at the corner of Samaria and Lewis. The parks we do have lack adequate parking, drainage, upkeep, etc. Although the new playground equipment is very nice for the kids.
One of the ideas was a parks and recreation commission/committee. This is an excellent idea and should be looked into immediately and a task force assembled to figure out the best way to implement this commission/committee.
A community of our size should not be lacking in the facilities the way we are. So many surrounding communities have great facilities which open up so many opportunities for youth and adult sports a like. There should be a strong focus on improving our parks and recreation in the years ahead.
Go over to Bedford Now’s Chatter and join in the conversation. I am sure you will enjoy it.
