No one controlled animals before we arrived. And of course you would say that. You are "Outside" magazine. Every outdoor magazine advocates hunting. Look at your advertisers. And the truth is, wolves are great at what they do. Trouble is they infringe on humans doing the killing. There is no evidence from the states themselves that elk populations are at risk from wolves at all. Elk populations are up.

You speak of the old archaic ways of wolf hunting like pup clubbing and poison, is something that wouldn't be tolerated today. Where do you live? We've been forced to tolerate aerial sport hunting so far. And we know canned hunts for all types of animals still exists. Internet Hunting sure got some quick attention for its really unethical qualities. And the international expose about animals by Anderson Cooper in the series "Planet in Peril" paints a much better picture of man's affects on animals.

Your attempt to lump wolves in with regularly hunted species like elk or deer for control issues is ludicrous. Elk and deer can be eaten, and their populations are in the tens of thousands as compared to 650 packs of wolves. We are attacking this animal way before it's needed.

Nice article but it had hunting lobby written all over it. And the rangers in Yellowstone Park would beg to differ with you.
